Martin G. Knott, President of the Marion I. & Henry J. Knott Foundation’s Board of Trustees, announced that the Foundation has appointed Kathleen McCarthy to the role of Executive Director. 

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Marion I. & Henry J. Knott Foundation, I am delighted to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Kathleen McCarthy.

While new to this role, many of you know Kathleen from her previous position as the Foundation’s first Program Director. Since joining the Foundation in October 2007, she has taken on various roles, demonstrating exceptional competence and leadership. Her contributions have consistently exceeded expectations, showcasing her ability to strengthen and advance the Foundation’s mission. As Executive Director, Kathleen now oversees the Foundation’s general operations, supports board development, manages grantmaking efforts, and guides the organization’s strategic direction.

A graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School, Kathleen has always been drawn to work that sits at the intersection of people, purpose, and possibility. 

Kathleen’s appointment comes at an important time for the Knott Foundation.  As we continue to advance our strategic grantmaking initiatives, explore new strategies and structures for board engagement and prepare to celebrate the Foundation’s 50th anniversary in 2027, there is much work to be done.
