Strategic Initiatives

A new grantmaking framework for the Knott Foundation, our Strategic Grantmaking Initiative is informed by our Board’s desire to engage more directly and deeply in the historically broad work of the Foundation. The new framework is informed by our piloted work in the Out-of-School-Time sector and grounded in research, listening tours, and belief that investing with increased intentionality in Youth Empowerment, Catholic Schools and Workforce Development will not only lead to greater impact, but also greater understanding of community needs and opportunities to innovate.

Youth Empowerment

Research shows that youth often struggle to connect what they're learning in the classroom with what's happening in every day life. We support nonprofits that engage youth with meaningful connections with mentors and exposure to real-life experiences so they can discover fulfilling educational, career, and and life pathways.

Catholic Schools

Among the most important predictors of success in Catholic schools are the leadership at the school and the infrastructure of support available to students. We support programs that build leadership in Catholic schools, as well as academic and social-emotional support services for Catholic school students.

Workforce Development

Wage is a driver of economic mobility. Yet many adults face an uphill battle to higher pay and stable employment. We support nonprofits that support low-wage workers and people facing barriers to employment get the skills they need, overcome and obstacles they face, and find (and keep) good quality jobs.
